Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in South-east appears to be miffed at Senator Ken Nnamani’s ambition to become the party’s deputy national chairman South, which they believe, cost the geo-political zone the opportunity of retaining position of national secretary of the party.

Prime Business Africa gathered that the Southeast APC leaders had met at Imo State Government house and agreed that Southeast should retain the National Secretary post but Sen. Nnamani, it was learnt, claimed that President Buhari endorsed him for the position of deputy national chairman South.

After the meeting yesterday between the president and the governors where he (Buhari) endorsed Senator Adamu Abdullahi from North-central as the party national chairman, it became clear to all that the president did not endorse Nnamani for the position, making the South-east people in the party feel disenchanted.

“The people of Southeast are unhappy with Ken Nnamani as he allowed his inordinate ambition to gain a better part of him and on this account traded off the position of National Secretary earlier zoned to the South-east,” an impeccable source privy to the meeting stated.

According to a document sited by Prime Business Africa which detailed the allocation of positions in the party’s national leadership, the national secretary slot was allocated to South-west geo-political zone.

A reliable source told Prime Business Africa that Nnamani will not get the position he seeks because there is an ongoing plan that no member of the current caretaker committee of the APC (which he is part of), would return to the party national leadership even though the slot is still for the South-east.

Similar fate also befell John Akpanudoedehe, APC National Secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) who wants to return as secretary.

Prime Business Africa had reported that the president would meet with the APC governors after his return from AU-EU Summit in Brussels, Belgium to conclude the deal on zoning arrangement for the party national offices.

The online newspaper had also reported that despite internal disagreements over mode of selection of the party national chairman, it was set to ‘appoint’ a consensus chairman from the North Central geopolitical zone.

Apart from the deputy National Chairman, the following positions were also zoned to South-east: National Vice Chairman (South-east), National Treasurer, National Welfare Secretary, Deputy National Organising Secretary, among other zonal offices of the party.

The South-west was apart from the national secretary, given slots for National Vice Chairman (South-West), National Youth Leader and Deputy National Auditor of the party.

The South-south has the following national party offices: National Vice Chairman (South-south), National Publicity Secretary, National Women Leader, Deputy National Treasurer and Deputy National Welfare Secretary.

North-east has Deputy National Chairman (North), National Auditor, National Vice Chairman (North-east), Deputy National Financial Secretary and Deputy National Women Leader.

In additional to National Chairmanship post, the North Central was also given posts of: National Vice Chairman (North-central), Deputy National Secretary, Deputy National Legal Adviser and Deputy National Publicity Secretary.

The North-West has National Vice Chairman (North-west), National Legal Adviser, National Organizing Secretary, National Financial Secretary, and Deputy National Youth Leader.

It was indicated that President Buhari during the meeting with the APC governors only endorsed Senator Adamu for national chairman and requested the Governors to handle the appointment of persons for other offices of the party both at national and zonal levels.

The party has fixed March 26 for its national convention, and has subsequently, set 20 sub-committees to take charge of various activities on that day.
