Ex-Rivers governor now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has let out what may be at the heart of his fight with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

Speaking when he met with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors’ Forum led by the governor of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, in Abuja, Wike said his successor has teamed up with some political enemies he fought with while trying to help Fubara get into power.

In his words, “Yes, they have talked about the crisis in the state. Let me tell everybody who cares, nobody can intimidate me, nobody. It doesn’t matter whether you go and bring thugs on the road. It doesn’t matter whether you want to say you are Ijaw. If I want to do something, I’ll do it.

“Impeachment is not a military coup. Impeachment is provided for under the constitution—I’m not interested in all the rumors…

“Nobody can take away our political structure, no one. So, I have listened to them and for me, you cannot work and people will begin to bring enemies, those who fought you when you are struggling for the person to be in office. Nobody does that!”

The governor also denied all the claims that he has been demanding large sums of money from the money allocated to Rivers State.

“I am not a political ingrate—but don’t touch the political structure of Rivers State. I will not shut my eyes.”

The minister also said to forget about the “Obidients” and the “Atikus”, whom he feels are spreading false rumors about him because he didn’t support their presidential candidates.

He declared his resolve to always do what is right and pledged his undying support to the president.

“My conscience is clear, nobody can rubbish me”, he said.

The minister cautioned those who spread false information or propaganda about him as he has the capacity to fight back such attempts.

Other governors that were present at the meeting include: Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau State), Governor Kefas Agbu (Taraba State) and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa).
