The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has opened up on the feud between him and his estranged political godson, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, asserting that he doesn’t like ingrates.

He spoke same day that Fubara dismissed insinuations that he is a non-Ijaw, insisting that those saying so are not conversant with the history of the struggle that defined Ijaw people. He pointed out that his people of Opobo in Rivers state are integral part of the history of the Ijaw struggle, which makes him a true Ijaw son.

A statement by the Governor’s media aide quoted Fubara as telling the visiting Regent and other representatives of Kalabari Se Kobiri at Government House in Port Harcourt that “You cannot talk about the Ijaw struggle without the Opobo, the Bonny, and the Kalabari.

“So, whoever is feeding you with that information should go back to their history classes. We had our trade lines at that time and for you to occupy a trade line, it means you are a true Ijaw man. So, for the records, I am a full blooded, up to my bones, an Ijaw man.”

The Rivers Governor asserted that the Ijaw are bold, courageous, and forthright people who, despite being subjected to inhuman treatment, did not succumb to being traded as slaves during the slave trade.

He emphasised that he has one cardinal belief, which is that it is only the will of God that prevails in every circumstance, whether good or bad, winning or failing.

In the main, Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers, spoke at a press briefing in Abuja, referencing the crisis in the state where the state house of assembly is split with a faction trying to impeach the governor.

According to him, “Let me tell you, I don’t like ingrates; I can’t stand it. What is happening now is what Odili said in his book: ‘Give a man power and money, then you will know the person’.

“If you haven’t given a man, power and money, then you don’t know the person. However, I’m not worried because I’m a politician. I know what other states are suffering because of debt, but go and check if I left liabilities; the records are there.

“I left projects for him to commission so he would showcase during his hundred days, then politics came in. We are just starting; God gave you something; you are now importing crisis.

“God gave this on the platter of gold; the Federal Government is not fighting you, no crisis, but you are the one now trying to create a crisis for yourself; only those who are natural ingrates will support what is happening there. I use the instrumentality of law to fight not thugs, time will come.”
