The bill passed the House on Wednesday with a vote of 221-198, including support from five Democrats who joined GOP members.

Biden’s Veto Promise

President Biden has promised to veto the bill, arguing it does little to uphold existing penalties for non-citizen voting and complicates the process for legal voters.

Elon Musk questioned the president’s stance in a post to his nearly 190 million followers.

“There is a tiny chance this will pass the Senate if a few Dems cross party lines, but Biden said he would veto the bill even if it did,” Musk said. “I wonder why?”

Responses and Reactions

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts responded, “It’s simple. He’s trying to win an election.” Maryland State Rep.

Mark Fisher also commented, “Why would the majority of Democrats vote against the SAVE Act? Allowing noncitizens to vote is a threat to democracy.”

Elon Musk Social Media Influence

Musk has a history of using social media to jab at prominent Democrats, especially as the party ramps up its campaign efforts ahead of the election.

Recently, he aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris for “lying” about former President Donald Trump.

Musk on Harris’s Claims

“When will politicians, or at least the intern who runs their account, learn that lying on this platform doesn’t work anymore?” Musk asked in response to Harris’s claim that former President Trump will “ban abortion” if reelected in 2024.

Vice President’s Assertion

Vice President Harris asserted she and President Joe Biden will “do everything in our power to stop [Trump] and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”

The Broader Implications

The debate over the SAVE Act highlights the ongoing tensions in American politics regarding voting rights and election integrity.

Elon Musk’s involvement brings significant attention to these issues due to his vast influence on social media.

The controversy surrounding the bill and the president’s veto promise will likely continue to fuel discussions as the election approaches.
