Just a few days after bandits attacked the Ruwi community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing over 50 people, another 10 were killed on Friday 4 April in a fresh attack on five communities in the local government.

The attacks didn’t spare women and children, and properties were also destroyed and raised to the ground.

A fresh attack was unleashed in Mangor, but security forces repelled them, forcing the terror mongers to move to Daffo, where security also intervened. Thereafter, they moved to Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai villages. The latest attacks have forced residents of the affected communities and their neighbors to flee for their lives.

Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council Vanguard, Fuddang, described the attacks as devastating. In a discussion with our correspondent, he commended the Nigerian Army and police for their swift response, which minimized casualties. The soldiers engaged the attackers in a fierce battle, overwhelming them and forcing their retreat.

During the confrontation, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and six motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants. Blood trails were also observed along the criminals’ withdrawal route, indicating possible casualties among the attackers.

The Nigerian military Operation SAFE HAVEN has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace in Plateau and its environs.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent, the Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, expressed deep sympathies to the affected families. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the recent invasions in Ruwi, Mangor, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai. We urge our people to stay calm and maintain peace despite the provocation,” she stated.

The recent killings in Bokkos and its surrounding communities in Plateau State have been described by Nigerians as heartbreaking and unacceptable. “No Nigerian should have to live in fear. The losses appear to be even worse than initially feared,” a resident told Prime Business Africa.

Meanwhile, the devastated community is dealing with the aftermath, as search and rescue efforts continue.

As the people of Plateau State struggle to come to terms with the latest tragedy, Nigerians have called on the government to prioritise the well-being and protection of its people, and take concrete steps to prevent further attacks.
