Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has condemned the vandalisation of structures in the second Niger Bridge and assured that there will be formidable security around the area to forestall future occurrence.
The minister was reacting to a viral video where a blogger called Lord Zeus raised the alarm about the activities of vandals who have destroyed metals used in fixing the expansion joints of the bridge. The video showed how the metals have been removed from the joints posing danger to motorists.

He said the bridge is a critical infrastructure meant to expand access to the southern part of the country and boost economic activities among others in the area.
He described the act as “ruthless and cowardly sabotage.” He expressed his disappointment over such criminal and wicked conduct saying: “It is saddening that a human being with the right senses could destroy such a critical and strategic treasure that catalyses Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement.”
The statement said Umahi has directed a technical team to inspect, evaluate, and urgently repair the damaged sections of the bridge. In the meantime, he urged all road users, residents, and authorities in the vicinity to be extra vigilant.
The Minister acknowledged the public’s concern, particularly highlighting the efforts of the young Nigerian who raised the alarm, prompting widespread attention on social media.
