1. Major Oil Marketers Begin Lifting From Dangote Refinery

Major marketers have begun lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol from Dangote Refinery.

This comes after an authorisation by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to begin lifting from the refinery under its existing agreement between it and the refinery.

2. Poultry Industry faces Collapse over Operational Cost

Nigeria’s poultry industry which is recognised as the most commercialised component of the livestock subsection is at the brink of collapse due to high cost of poultry feed.

Reports have shown that more poultry farmers have closed dud to lack of market stability. The Director-General of the Poultry Association of Nigeria. Onallo Akpa has warned that should the industry collapse, Nigeria loses 25 million jobs and billions of naira in the value chain.

3. IPOB Reveals it Won’t Force Igbos to Resign From Nigerian Army

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has revealed that it has no intention of forcing Igbos to resign from the Nigerian Army or any other security agencies.

It also denied the allegations that IPOB members kidnapped and assaulted a soldier sent to the South-East to spy on the Biafra movement.

4. Tinubu May Scrap Humanitarian Ministry, Merge MDAs

There are strong indications that President Bola Tinubu may scrap the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and also merge some ministries as part of a major cabinet rejig.

According to a source from the presidency who pleaded anonymity, this exercise would see to the splitting of some portfolios, merging of some portfolios into a single entity and the relieving of duties of some ministers.

5. States Plan Emergency Shelter Ahead of Cameroon Dam Release

States said to be at risk of flooding in the proposed release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon into the River Niger and River Benue, have started planning temporary shelters for the affected residents.

The Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, Danladi Obagu, said on Wednesday that the state has begun setting up temporary shelters for residents of flood prone areas.

6. FIRS Plans Incentives to Draw Informal Sector into Tax Net

Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has disclosed plans to enhance the Nigeria’s tax system by exploring various incentives aimed at drawing players in the informal sector into the tax net.

Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, stated this in Lagos, on Wednesday, at the Private Sector Stakeholders’ Engagement jointly organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and FIRS, with the theme, ‘’Emerging Tax Matters”.

7. It is Punishable Crime for any Employer to Pay workers less than N70,000 – FG

The Federal Government has revealed that the N70,000 minimum wage is now a law and non compliance to it is a punishable offense.

This was stated by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, on Wednesday while speaking at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Employers Association for Private Employment Agencies of Nigeria, held in Ikeja, Lagos.

8. SSANU, NASU Threaten Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions has announced that it has given the Federal Government three weeks to pay outstanding salaries or it will embark on an indefinite strike.

Among the demands of the union are the payment of four months’ withheld salaries, improved remuneration, earned allowances, and the implementation of the 2009 agreements with the government.

9. Naira Falls to N1,645/$ in Parallel Market

Naira depreciated to N1,645 per dollar from N1,640 per dollar in the parallel market.

Data from FMDQ showed that the Naira appreciated to N1,539.65 per dollar from N1,656.49 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM on Tuesday, indicating N116.84 appreciation for the naira.

10. Lagos Government to Begin Demolition of Onigbongbo Police Barracks 

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has announced yesterday on its intention of a controlled demolition of the Onigbongbo Police Barracks in Ikeja, following the discovery of high distress conditions of the buildings.

This was announced by the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, after an on-the-spot assessment of the marked building.

11. FG to Partner with US to Promote Press Freedom

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that his ministry is partnering with the United States government to promote and strengthen press freedom in Nigeria.

He stated this in an interview with newsmen after a meeting with the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills in his office yesterday .

While speaking during the inaugural meeting of the National Caretaker Committee on Tuesday in Abuja, he called on the Abure-led National Working Committee to sheath their swords and join hands with the Caretaker Committee to rebuild the party.

15. Yahaya Bello Cries out over Attempts by EFCC to Arrest him Forcefully 

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has cried out over attempt by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest him forcefully.

According to a press statement on Wednesday which happens to be the third one released by his media team, it said that operatives of the EFCC surrounded the Kogi State Government Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, and repeatedly fired gun shots in their bid to arrest him on Wednesday’s night.

16. Zamfara Boat Accident: 10 Bodies Recovered, 22 still Missing

Bodies of 10 victims of the Zamfara boat accident which occurred on Saturday at Gummi, Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been recovered.

About 22 passengers who were also victims of the accident have not been found yet.

17. Schools Record Low Turnout after Resumption

There has been low turnouts of student across primary and secondary schools in major cities nationwide since one week after schools resumed for the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to findings, there has been noticeable decline in attendance of students which has been attributed to increase in transport fares which is a direct consequence of hike in petrol prices.

18. 15,000 Flood Victims Take Refuge in Schools

About 15,000 victims of the recent Jigawa flood have taken refuge in 45 primary and secondary schools which have been converted to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

According to the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr Haruna Mairiga, he said that, “The major challenge is relocating these IDPs to safer areas as their current locations are prone to future flooding.”

According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti and Peter Obi are using the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as their launching pad to annex the party’s leadership.

20. Another Wave of Explosions Kill People in Lebanon 

About 20 people were killed and more than 450 people were injured by a second wave of explosions in Lebanon.

According to reports, the explosions were from wireless communication devices, walkie-talkies which blew up in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon, some during the burial of those killed by the pagers explosion across the country on Tuesday.
