1. Naira Depreciates to N1,656/$ At Official Market
Nigeria’s currency, the naira has depreciated to N1,656.49 per dollar a the official segment of the foreign exchange market.

The NAFEM data shows that the official exchange rate rose from N1,546.51 per dollar last week Friday to N1,656.49 per dollar, indicating N109.98 depreciation for the naira.
2. N1.203tn Was Shared to FG, States And LGs in August – FAAC
The Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) has said that N1.203 trillion earned as revenue was shared to Federal Government, states and Local Government councils in the country.
This was announced in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, during the September 2024 FAAC meeting in Abuja, on Tuesday. Read more
3. Tinubu Signed Peace Accord – Presidency Replies Kukah
Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah had said on Sunday during a security town hall meeting in Benin that Tinubu didn’t sign the peace accord during the 2023 presidential election. The peace accord, unusually done before election, commits political parties and their candidates to a violent-free election.
The presidency has refuted the claim through a statement made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his X handle on Tuesday. In the statement, he described Kukah’s claim as incorrect, stating that the President signed the two peace accords preceding his election in 2023.
4. 35,000 Police Officers Arrive Edo State Ahead of Elections
The first batch of 35,000 police men deployed to Edo State ahead of the Saturday’s gubernatorial election have arrived.
Also, soldiers and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have been deployed to the state to maintain law and order during the 21 September election.

Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has slammed the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government over the current hardship in the country.

More issues have risen between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and Dangote Refinery over the execution of a sale-purchase deal on premium motor spirit popularly known as petrol.

NNPCL said the refinery is struggling to deliver the promised 16.8 million litres while Dangote has claimed that it had already delivered 111 million litres of the product from last Sunday to Tuesday, adding that loading was still ongoing.

Enugu State government has initiated moves to revitalise multimillion Sunrise Flour Mill Industry in located the state.
The state government signed a N40 billion deal with Jelfah Nigeria Limited on Tuesday for the revitalisation of the facility at Emene Industrial layout.
This comes 39 years after it was abandoned.

Army troops in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna State have neutralised four terrorists and rescued 20 kidnapped victims from the den of kidnappers in Kaduna State.
This was announced in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna by the Commissioner for Internal Security, Mr Samuel Aruwan.
17. Police Arrest Gunrunning Syndicate
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested a leader of a gunrunning syndicate identified as Taimako Mato alongside four other members of the syndicate. The police also recovered a weapon handling instructor at an undisclosed Boko Haram camp.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
18. Thousands of Families in Distress over Demolition of Buildings in Lagos
The demolition of buildings which reportedly took place on Monday without prior notice, is said to have renderrendered thousands of families homeless and in distress.
Residents of Ayetoro community in the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have alleged that the Lagos State government officials, especially the Task Force and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was responsible for the demolition.
19. Police Rescue 16-year-old Girl Kidnapped and Repeatedly Raped in Rivers
The Rivers Police Command has rescued a 16-year-old girl who was reportedly kidnapped in a Ghana-must-go bag in Enugu State and taken to a hideout in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where she was repeatedly raped.
This was disclosed by the Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to journalists on Tuesday while parading suspects recently arrested for various offences in the State.

The former Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has called for a policy review to help minimise the current economic hardship faced by citizens in the country.
He pointed out that, “There is a limit to what people can handle. You can’t tell someone to be patient with poverty while we see the people who are supposed to address our poverty live flamboyantly, building huge mansions and having fleet of cars without caring how they are fuelled, whereas the rest of us are queuing to get a few litres of fuel.”
