2. Obi Slams Presidency Over Attempts to Cast him in Bad Light
Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has slammed the presidency over attempts to cast him in a bad light using the American presidential elections.
In a statement through his media office titled “Why desperate Obi traders are kissing the dust?”, signed the his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, in Abuja, on Sunday, Obi said this was the work of propagandists together with their presidential enablers who were out to distort facts in order to dent his image.
3. Varsity Lawyer Languishes in Prison Over Protest – Adeyanju
One of the lawyers for the #EndBadGovernance protesters, Mr Deji Adeyanju has raised the alarm that a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Baze University, Dr. Abubakar Alkali, has been in the Department of State Service, (DSS) custody for over three weeks.
According to Adeyanju, Dr Alkali, “was abducted by DSS three weeks ago and taken to Sokoto State for supporting the #EndBadGovernance protest. He has been in custody since then.”
4. Equity Market Boosted by Results of Zenith, GTB
Following the results posted by Zenith Bank Plc and GTBank Plc, for the positive half year, (H1) 2024, the Nigerian Stock market has returned to gains.
Nigerian Exchange (NGX), All Share Index (ASI) rose by 1.1% from 96,433.53 points the previous week to close at 97.456.62 following the gains in the shares of MTN, First Bank of Nigeria Holding, Oando, and Nestle, among others.
5. NESG, FG Set to Review State Of Economy during 30th Summit
The Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning together with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), is set to review the economic downturn facing the country during the 30th edition of the Nigerian Economic Summit, NES-30.
The summit which is themed, “Collaborative Action for Growth, Competitiveness and Stability”, is scheduled to hold from 14-16 October 2024.
6. Telcos Expected to Disconnect Mobile Lines not Linked to NIN
Following the expiration of the September 14 deadline set by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), telecommunication operators are expected to start disconnecting mobile telephone lines that are not linked to National Identification Numbers.
In a statement by the NCC in August, it said that no SIM card would remain active without a verified NIN from 15 September.
7. Nigerian Govt’s Threat to Deduct Striking Doctors’ Salary Insensitivity – NARD
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has described the Federal Government’s threat to deduct seven days pay from striking doctors as insensitive.
In an interview on Sunday, Vice President II of NARD and Chairman of the NARD Medical Education Committee, Dr. Kefas Wida, said doctors are not moved by the threat. He added that this was a little sacrifice they are making in their demand for the rescue of their colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, who was kidnapped almost nine months ago at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna.
8. Nigeria Correctional Service Alerts Immigration, Others to Help Recapture Fleeing Inmates
Following severe flooding last Tuesday, in Maiduguri, Borno State, about 281 inmates escaped from the Maiduguri Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is set to sell petrol gotten from Dangote Refinery at N950 in Lagos.

10. Adamawa State Government Approves N3.9billion Project
The Adamawa State Government has approved a N3.9billion project aimed at extending the Saminaka Storm Water drainage from Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Yola to Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School Yola in order to mitigate flooding in the state.
The project which was awarded to Messrs Triacta Nigeria Limited, is aimed at excavating and constructing a 2.4km long, 7m wide, and 1.5m deep storm water drainage. It will also connect existing culverts across the Jambutu bypass and provide access culverts at selected locations.
11. FG Begins Free Conversion of Vehicles to CNG in Lagos, Abuja, others
The Federal Government has begun its initiative of converting vehicles from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) across the country.
In Lagos, commercial drivers trooped to the conversion centres to have their vehicles changed for free.
12. Nigerian Government Launches Digital Literacy Initiative
The Federal Government has launched its digital literacy initiative tagged “Digital Literacy for All Initiative” which is aimed at empowering over 30 million Nigerians, especially those in the informal and rural sector to harness digital technologies for enhanced productivity.
This was disclosed by the Director General and CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullah, during the programme’s launch in Minna, Niger State.
13. President Tinubu Commiserates with Victims of Boat Accident, Pledges Support
President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the people of Zamfara State over the recent floods in Gummi LGA of the state and the death of over 40 farmers on their way to their farms in a boat accident.
In a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, he pledged support to victims of both incidents and urged emergency agencies to address the cause of the two incidents.

The ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has called for accountability in every step made in the allocation of N3 billion to victims of the Maiduguri flood.
At a media briefing in Abuja, the Country Director of AAN, Mr Andrew Mamedu, who was represented by the Deputy Country Director, Hajiya Suwaiba Muhammad Dankabo, commended the swift efforts of the federal and state governments in handling the issue while also adding that there should be monitoring and evaluation of the allocation.

The shutdown order which was issued by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, is said to have been taken in the interest of public health.

The Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Sunday, raise the alarm that over 200 of its members are being victimized, citing unjust termination of appointments and refusal to pay outstanding salaries arrears of 28 months.
The union expressed concern over the treatment of its members at various universities, including Lagos State University (LASU), Kogi State University (KSU), and Ebonyi State University (EBSU).
