1. Dangote Refinery Begins Petrol Supply Today

Dangote Refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria begins supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol to the local market.

In line with agreement reached by the Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the 650,000 barrels per day refinery will only sell to the national oil company. Read more 

2. Marketers Raise Concerns About Monopoly As NNPCL Becomes Sole Off-taker Of Dangote Refinery Petrol 

Petroleum marketers have frowned at the latest arrangement between Dangote Refinery and the NNPCL which gives the national oil company exclusive access to the refinery’s petrol.

They raised concerns about the possibility of what they called domestic monopoly creeping into the market system and warned about the implications.

The marketers therefore called for a review of the arrangement to allow them deal directly with the Dangote Refinery given that NNPCL had recently stated that a deregulated market is now in place and that it was not going to be the sole off-taker of the refinery’s petrol.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo State chapter has accused the Presidency of allegedly plotting to interfere and manipulate the 21 September governorship election through the National Security Adviser (NSA) and Department of State Services (DSS), in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP chairman in the State, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, made the allegation in a statement released on Saturday.

Dr Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi further alleged that over $2 million has been released to the APC candidate by the NSA to buy votes and bribe security agencies during the election.

7. Atiku, Fubara, other PDP Heavy Weights Storm Edo for Ighodalo’s Grand Rally

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday, stormed Benin, the Edo State Capital for the grand finale of the party’s governorship campaign.

The PDP rounded off its campaign rally on Saturday for its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who will slug it out with Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party and other contestants from other minor political parties.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on Saturday joined other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), during the grand finale of the gubernatorial campaign of the party held at the Sports Complex of the University of Benin.

During the campaign rally, Shettima called on the people of Edo State to vote for the APC governorship candidate in the 21st September election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in order to have a state that is functional.

11. Boat Mishap Claims About 41 Lives In Zamfara

At least 41 persons reportedly lost their lives on Saturday in a boat mishap in Gummi town, the headquarters of Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

In an interview, the Director of Emergency at the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), Hassan Dauran, said the boat was carrying about 50 passengers when the tragic accident occurred.

12. Tinubu Hails Military For Successfully Killing Notorious Terrorists

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has commended the military for their continued onslaught on terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements causing instability in some parts of the country.

In a statement on Saturday, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, for successfully neutralising a wanted bandit leader, Halilu Sububu, who had been terrorising residents of Zamfara, Sokoto, and other parts of the Northwest.

13. Uganda Airlines begins direct flights from Abuja

Uganda Airlines has launched direct flights from Abuja to Entebbe, a city in Central Uganda.

The airline said that the new route was expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, boost trade and tourism between the two countries and provide travellers with an efficient link between West and East Africa.
