1. Petrol Supply From Dangote Refinery Begins Sunday

The Federal Government has disclosed that supply of petrol from Dangote refinery will commence on Sunday after agreement on pricing and supply has been reached.

A member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of crude Oil and Refined Products and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, while speaking in Abuja announced that, “all agreements have been completed and loading of the first batch of PMS from the Dangote Refinery will commence on Sunday 15th September”. 2. Borno Flood: Police Recover 11 Decomposed Bodies 

The Borno State Police Command has said that it has recovered 11 decomposed bodies in the flood that hit Maiduguri, Borno capital.

According to spokesman for the police command, Ahmed Wakili, he said that these bodies were recovered during a rescue operation between Wednesday and Thursday.

3. Hardship: Nigerians Devise a Way to Survive

Following the hardship which has taken a toll on the economy, occasioned by the hike in fuel price and food inflation, many Nigerians have devised various means to survive.

While some have resorted to selling personal belongings, farming, begging, trekking long distance, others have resorted to skipping meals, eating less nutritional meals and even surviving on animal feeds.

4. NERC Fines AEDC for Overbilling Customers

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has fined Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) N1.69bn for overbilling customers.

According to NERC, the fine was imposed because AEDC overcharged customers from January to September 2023. This fine was just equivalent to 10 per cent of the overbilled amount. Read more

5. External Reserves Rise by $424.68m

Nigeria’s external reserves has recorded a growth of $424.68 million between 30 August and 10 September.

This was contained in a report by the Central Bank of Nigeria released on Thursday, 12 September.

6. Nigeria-China Relations Upgrades to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – Amb Yu Dunhai

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has said after the conclusion of the 2024 Forum for China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) which was held in China that Nigeria-China relations has now been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

While speaking at a conference of experts from the academia, media and business community held in Abuja on Friday to review the outcome of the FOCAC Summit of September 1 to 6 in Beijing, China, he said that President Bola Tinubu was among the few heads of state who were given a state visit and accorded a grand welcome by China’s President Xi Jinping and Premer Li Qiang, which shows the respect China has for both the President and Nigeria and its commitment towards fostering bilateral relationships between both countries.

7. Niger Delta, Southern States at Risk Of Flood – FG

The Federal Government has warned that Niger Delta and Southern States are at risk of flooding.

This warning was given by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, on Friday where he advised the government and people of the states to activate emergency efforts that will help reduce the impact of the flood.

8. Niger House of Assembly Loses Member

The Niger State House of Assembly has lost one of its member, Mr Joseph Duza (PDP-Munya).

This was announced in a statement by the Head of Media and Public Relations of the assembly, Malam Farouq Isah, in Minna, on Friday.

9. Kwara Gov Abdulrazaq Swears In 6 New Judges

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has sworn in six new judges for the state high court.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony which was held at the Government House Ilorin, the State Governor congratulated the newly appointed judges while still urging them to discharge their duties with “diligence, impartiality, and overriding interest of the community and national security”.

Veteran actress and politician, Hilda Dokubo, has said that an entertainer’s body is their most valuable asset.

She said this while advising actresses and others to take care of their health. “Your body is your most valuable tool. Take care of it, as you cannot perform without it.”

11. Notorious Terrorist Shot Dead by Soldiers

Notorious terrorist, Halilu Sububu who has been terrorizing the North West has been shot dead by the military.

According to the Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the Nigerien was killed in Mayanchi village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, alongside thirty-eight other bandits.

12. We Must Tackle Poverty, Unemployment To deal with Insecurity – Army Chief 

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, has said that Nigeria must solve the problem of poverty and unemployment in order to tackle the problem of insecurity.

He said this while presenting the first strategic personality lecture titled, ‘Combating an Adversary Without Boundaries: The Need to Implement a Whole of Society Approach to Nigeria’s National Security’ at the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS), University of Ibadan.

13. Wanted Drug Baron Arrested

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a wanted drug Baron identified as Alhaji Suleiman Aremu (a.k.a Barryshine).

According to a statement on Friday, by the spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, the drug baron came under the watchlist of the agency after four failed attempts to export cocaine to Saudi Arabia and Qatar through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, between 2022 and 2024.

14. You Cannot Ask People to Fast while you are Feasting – Obi tells Tinubu

Former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has slammed President Bola Tinubu led administration over wasteful spending which, according to him, had further worsened the living conditions of Nigerians.

Obi said there is high level of hunger among Nigerians currently. He condemned the wasteful spending of the government which includes the purchase of a new presidential jet at $100m, N21bn for the renovation of the vice president’s lodge, and N15bn for the construction of the National Assembly clinic while adding “You cannot ask people to fast while you are feasting”.

15. N701m Spent on First Lady’s Foreign Trips in 3 Months

Reports have shown that approximately N701m has been spent by the Federal Government to fund the foreign trips of First Lady, Remi Tinubu in a span of three months.

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership has said in reaction that this spending was out of place as the office of the First Lady is not recognized by the constitution.

16. Police Parade suspected killers of first year varsity student

The Kogi State Police Command has paraded the suspected killers of a 19-year-old first-year student at the Federal University, Lokoja, Damilola Olowoyo.

The four suspects, Jeremiah Paul, Emmanuel Otitoju, Banabas Olugbenga, and Ajayi Ayomide, were presented at the police headquarters in Lokoja on Friday.

19. Lagos State Government Increases Boarding fees to N100,000 per Term

The Lagos State Government has increased boarding fees from N35,000 to N100,000 per term in all secondary schools across the state.

In a letter titled “Review of Boarding Fees in All Public Secondary Schools in Lagos State for 2024/2025 Session,” which was addressed to all boarding school principals, signed by Olufemi Asaolu, Director of Basic Education Services at the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, it was stated that no additional fees other than the N100,000 should be collected by the school and announced that the resumption date has been set for 15 September 2024.

20. OATUU, German Labour Union Express Concerns over Persecution of Labour Leaders in Nigeria

The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity, OATUU, and the German Confederation of Trade Unions, DGB, have expressed their concerns over perceived attacks, harassment, and persecution of labour leaders in Nigeria.

OATUU in a statement by its Secretary General, Arezki MEZHOUD has pledged their support for the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in its defense of the rights and interests of workers.
