2. Fear Of Flood Forces Anambra Farmers To Embark on Premature Harvesting
In a bid to minimize losses that may come with impending flood disasters, farmers in Anambra State have embarked on premature harvesting of crops.
Executive Secretary, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Paul Odenigbo, made this known on Tuesday.
Some parts of Anambra that are along the coastline of the River Niger, are prone to flooding every year.
Odenigbo said many community farmlands had already been submerged, following increased water level.
3. Ajero Arrest: Nigerian Govt Reacts to UK TUC’s Accusation of Rights Abuses
The Nigerian government has reacted to the accusation by Trade Union Congress in the United Kingdom that it abused the rights of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president, Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero was arrested and detained on Monday by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) while on his way to the UK to attend 2024 TUC conference in London.
He was released on Monday night after spending hours in DSS facility.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, claimed that the DSS operatives arrested Ajaero because he failed to honour invitation by security agencies. He insisted that the claim of human rights violation was baseless. Read more
4. Ajaero: Tinubu Govt’s Oppression Surpasses Military – Atiku
A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has said the level of oppression under President Bola Tinubu’s administration is worse than the harshest military regime in the history of the country.
Atiku stated this while criticising the federal government over the arrest of the Nigeria Labour Congress President, Joe Ajaero, by the Department of State Services, and the takeover of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
Atiku called on Tinubu to focus security efforts on terrorists and bandits, not civil society activists.

7. EFCC to go After Bank Officials Aiding Financial Crimes
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said it will soon begin to prosecute bank officials facilitating financial fraud.
The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, stated this on Tuesday at the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja.
8. NNPC Yet To Finalise Commercial Agreement With Dangote Refinery on Lifting of Petrol
Ahead of 15 September announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to begin lifting petrol from the Dangote Refinery, there are indications that the national oil company and the refinery are yet to finalise commercial agreement.
Executive Vice President of NNPC, Downstream, Adedapo Segun, had last week in an interview on television said the company would start lifting Dangote petrol on 15 September 15.
However, there are indications that nothing has been done about it since then.
9. Eguavoen Denies Stepping Down as Eagles Coach
Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen, has denied stepping down as the interim coach of the Super Eagles after the two 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Eguavoen was appointed by the NFF to take charge of the two games following the inability of the federation to secure the services of German coach, Bruno Labbadia, over what they call stringent German tax laws. Read more
10. NiMet predicts heavy rains, Thunderstorms across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has predicted thunderstorms and rains from Wednesday to Friday across the country.
NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja envisaged thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday in the northern region.
