President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The new appointees are expected to serve for a period of five years and they include: Mr. Jani Adamu Bello as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Gombe State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos State, Mr. Bamidele Agbede as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State, Dr. Taiye Ilayasu as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kwara State, Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Zamfara State, Prof. Mohammed Yalwa as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Niger State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa State and finally, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale said that the appointment of the nine RECs are subject to the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate.
The statement reads, “By powers vested in him by Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, Amended) and Section 6 of the Electoral Act (2022), President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of nine (9) new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a term of five (5) years each, subject to the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate”.
Tinubu advised the new appointees to abide by the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties and then he also said that it was in accordance with his doggedness to ensure that a new and sustainable standard of transparent, fair and conflict-free Electoral conduct was established in the country.
