Lagos-based legal practitioner and Public Analyst, Barrister Mike Umonnan, has blasted the federal government for wasting millions of dollars on the Deep Blue Project.

The Deep Blue project was launched three months ago, and described as the answer to maritime crimes in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea, by Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

However, Barr. Mike Umonnan, asserted that the project was useless regarding security on the waterways, and in saner climes, the Minister of Transport would have honorably resigned.

In his words; “one would have thought that with all the razzmatazz and the noise about the Deep Blue Project, that it would actually bring to an end the activities of pirates. Rather what we are seeing is that pirates are now having a fulfilled day, carrying out their nefarious acts.”

The legal practitioner who noted that the problem of piracy and conflict cannot be solved by the Deep Blue Project, stressed that the sea pirates are professionals on sea, and a combat-ready ship be stationed to scare way any form of infiltration instead.
