Abigail ErhiagbojeOgun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday, disclosed that the state has approved full time employment of 1,000 Ogun Teach members, who were formerly on a two-year probation but had finally proved themselves worthy.
The governor said the move was in a bid to increase the workforce and improve teaching and learning in the state.

World Teachers’ Day, usually celebrated on 5th of October every year, is a day set aside globally to reflect on and celebrate the roles of teachers in every society.

Governor Abiodun assured members of the state of more reforms in education system in the state.
“Recognizing the impact of retiring teachers, our desire is to improve the teacher-student ratio, and in fulfillment of our promise to the hardworking and devoted members of Ogun Teach, we have announced the engagement of an additional 2000 interns. This is in addition to the 2000 interns already employed.
“We also approved the full employment of 1000 exceptional Ogun Teach members, who have distinguished themselves during their 2-year probation period,” governor Abiodun stated.
He also noted that alongside the 1,000 teachers now fully employed, there will be an addition of 2,000 intern teachers to the 2,000 already working in order to improve the teacher-student ratio and to fulfil their promise to the hardworking and devoted members of the Ogun Teach.
He further extended a heart felt gratitude to the leadership and members of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Association of Primary School Head-teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) and Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) for their undying commitment to service towards the children over the years.
The governor praised teachers for their roles in helping to shape society. According to him, the future of children relied solely on the level and quality of education they received which makes it very important for all to join hands to work very hard towards changing the educational sector positively and ensuring academic excellence by the children.
Governor Abiodun also informed the public of the government’s assurance to the teachers to remain committed to improving their welfare and well being and that in turn, they were expected to contribute totally towards the growth and improvement of the educational sector as it is through communal efforts that a great future can be built.
In response to the governor’s speech, the Chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Abiodun Akinola, expressed his gratitude to the governor for his strong support to teachers.
He also called for a redirection of policy to reduce the number of students that had dropped out from schools across the state.
During the ceremony, a teacher, Akeem Badru, received a two-bedroom bungalow gift. The teacher was said to be the first African to win the prestigious Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Award.
