How the Tanker Explosion Happened

The tanker, which was en route to Nguru town in Yobe State, lost control near Khadija University in Majia. Witnesses reported that the driver was unable to regain control of the vehicle before it exploded, igniting a devastating fire that spread quickly in the area.

A resident, who was present at the scene, described the chaos: “People rushed to the tanker to collect fuel, not realizing the danger. Then, suddenly, there was an explosion. It was horrible.”

People Injured After the Tanker Explosion

Many of the victims were caught in the explosion while trying to scoop fuel from the leaking tanker. The police spokesman expressed sorrow over the loss of lives, stating that safety should always come first. “It’s unfortunate that people rushed to collect fuel despite the risks,” Adam added.

As hospitals in the area are overwhelmed, some of the injured have been moved to Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu. “The hospital couldn’t take more people,” Adam explained, “so we had to send some to other facilities for treatment.”

Mass Burial Plans Underway

Due to the severe burns suffered by most of the victims, many bodies have been rendered unrecognisable. Authorities are making arrangements for a mass burial to handle the large number of dead. Family members and locals have been gathering at the site, some still hoping to identify their loved ones despite the devastating conditions.

The tragic tanker explosion in Jigawa is a reminder of the risks associated with handling flammable substances. Officials are urging the public to avoid rushing to accident scenes for fear of similar outcomes.
