VICE Chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof Charles Igwe has said the brand-new rotary tablet press donated to Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the institution signifies resuscitation of abandoned practical projects.
Prof Igwe stated this while commissioning for use, the tablet press which is worth about N9.9 million, donated by members of 1985 graduating class in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, known as ‘Circle of 85 Pharmily’.

The VC, who highlighted the importance of the machine in the practical training of students in Pharmacy, expressed his profound appreciation to the group for such a wonderful gesture to the institution.
Former National President of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA), Dr. Okey Ewurum who delivered the keynote, urged other alumni sets to remember their alma mater and see the need to give back.
Ewurum emphasised the need for maintenance of previously donated infrastructure for teaching and learning so as to continue serving their purpose and not be abandoned.
While underscoring the importance of active alumni relations in every higher institution, Ewurum called on the VC to consistently collaborate with the alumni in order to continue reaping from their generous contributions to the university.
He also charged the university management to work assiduously in improving teaching and learning to maintain the institution’s image as a leading light in knowledge repository.
While presenting the gift, President of the group, Chuka Dozie Chukwuanu said the gesture is not just to donate the tablet but to trigger others to follow suit in seeking ways to intervene and help the university in providing for its infrastructural needs to boost teaching and learning.
He promised the availability of the group to provide assistance to the university anytime they are called upon.
Dean Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the university, Prof Kenneth Chibuzor Ofokansi, thanked the class of 85 for the gift to the faculty.
He said the faculty had also received a similar donation of tablet press last week by another group, coupled with other donations by various alumni groups.
The tablet press is a machine used in the pharmaceutical industry to compress compound substances in powdered form to produce drug tablets of uniform sizes and weights.
