Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, Super Falconets, will take part in the maiden edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B tournament to be hosted by Ghana from May 20 to June 4, 2023.

The WAFU Zone B tournament, for the men’s game, has served in recent memory as qualification series for Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions. The ladies have not been qualifying for tournaments on the African continent through that route.

However, the subregional tournament is this time not considered as a pre-tournament qualification campaign but the Nations Cup in the West African region for strictly U-20 women’s side.

The city of Kumasi in Ghana will be the venue of the tournament with matches expected to be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

The Secretariat of the West African Football Union Zone B has also released the logo for the event.

The U-20 women’s team has qualified for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and has been runners-up twice, losing to Germany on both occasions in 2010 and 2014. They were also quarterfinalists at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In the African U-20 World Cup qualification, the Falconets have won the championship title and qualified for the World Cup 10 times, with the most recent being in 2022.

The Falconets also won the gold medal at the football competition at the African Games in 2019.
