Strange: 'Crying' Crucifix Startles Anambra Residents

Residents of Odume-Obosi,  in Onitsha, Anambra State said they witnessed a mysterious occurrence at about 4pm on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 when they claimed that a crucifix erected in a field close to ‘St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in the area was noticed to be ”shedding tears.”

This strange occurrence reportedly attracted other residents in nearby towns, who immediately rushed to the place to  catch a glimpse of the alleged ‘crying crucifix.’

Some of the residents were seen going as far as touching what they said were the tears from the crucifix, with many saying they believed it had a ”spiritual message behind it.”

“We were surprised when we noticed the crucifix crying; it started around 4 pm today and has continued till now, that is why you see  a lot of people here,” one of them said.

Another resident, Mr. Egwu chibuzor, said:  ” I just saw the crowd this evening on my way back from work; I’m told it has been like that since 4pm. As you can see, some people are wiping the tears with their hands, even rubbing it on their body as they think it has some spiritual potency behind it.”

As at the time of this report, people could be seen all around the crucifix taking pictures of it and trying to get a hold on the ”tears.”

However, no official of the church  could comment on this issue as none was in sight as at the time of filing this report.

A telephone call was placed to a priest in the area and he said the Church would  naturally investigate the matter to verify the claims  before taking a position  or making official comments.

Asked if such a strange occurrence as claimed by eyewitnesses had ever happened in the spiritual  history of the Church and what the official response would be, the priest said  he had no authority to speak on such matters but would escalate it if it came to his desk.

On whether what the residents were referring  to was not part of the artificially- induced tears to align the statue more with the Lenten season the spirit of Easter, the priest insisted that such claims would be investigated before the  Church would comment on it.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to react to the residents’ claim, with many considering their alleged experience as ” very strange. I cannot wait to read a follow up on this, this is weird,”  one of the respondents said.
