Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh, has described as unacceptable, the poor run of the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers, during the June international window.
The Eagles, only managed to pick a point, out of a possible six in their ties against South Africa and Benin Republic, further pushing the team down the ladder, in Group C. The Minister noted that the team has received tremendous support from the government and ought to up their game, to avoid watching the next World Cup from a distance.
Join our WhatsApp Channel“The recent results are unacceptable,” Senator Enoh stated. “Despite the immense support from government and the high expectations of Nigerian football fans, the Super Eagles have underperformed. The NFF must provide a comprehensive technical report, explaining the reasons behind this poor showing, and give cause why there mustn’t be consequences for the disappointment caused both government and the generality of Nigerians.”
Nigerians, according to Enoh, are big fans of football and deserve to know why their national team is performing below par.
“Our supporters are passionate and devoted. They deserve an explanation on why our national team has not been performing to the expected standards since after the last AFCON,” he added
Following their successful defeat of Super Eagles yesterday, Benin Republic now lead the Group, with seven points at least, pending the outcome of the match between South Africa and Zimbabwe today, at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The Eagles, many say, must avoid missing another World Cup, after missing the last one in Qatar. Recall that the Nations Stadium in Abuja became a theatre of way, after the Super Eagles lost the final leg of the play-off against Ghana, as fans went on rampage destroying facilities at the stadium.
Meanwhile, the NFF on June 11 and 8 respectively remembered two prominent coaches, former Technical Director, Shuaibu Amodu and coach Stephen Keshi, who have passed on.They led the Eagles to Nations Cup win in 2013.
Taking to their X handle the NFF said earlier today, “Today we remember former Super Eagles Coach and NFF Technical Director, Late Coach Shuaibu Amodu who passed on to glory on this day in 2016. May his soul continue to rest in the Lord. Thank you coach for your contributions to the development of the round leather game in Nigeria.”
The federation had also on June 8 remembered Stephen Keshi, nicknamed the big boss, saying;
“Today we remember former Super Eagles captain and coach, The Big BOSS, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, who passed on, on this day in 2016. May his soul continue to rest in peace. Always in our heart coachie.”
