Soludo Appoints Rights Advocate, Odinkalu, As Ojukwu Varsity Pro-Chancellor

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed former chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, as pro-chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

This was made known in a statement released on Tuesday by Soludo’s press secretary, Christian Aburime.

Odinkalu is a human rights activist, lawyer, professor and writer. He has also served as senior team manager for the Africa Program of Open Society Justice Initiative. He has also worked as an advisor for the Ford Foundation New York, World Bank, African Union, the International Council for Human Rights Policy, Geneva; and many others.

Odinkalu was appointed as a Professor in Human Rights Law by the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in August 2021. Apart from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, the Anambra-born human rights activists and lawyer is also a visiting professor at Harvard Law School.

Bianca is the widow of former Biafra warlord, and governor old Eastern region, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. She had served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Ghana and Spain. She also a Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Both Odinkalu and Ojukwu served as chairman and secretary respectfully at the Anambra Truth, Peace and Justice Commission, set up by the governor, to unravel the circumstances behind insecurity in the South-East.

According to Aburime, Governor Soludo also appointed Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, as a member of the university Governing Council.
Other members of the council include Chief (Mrs) Ifeoma Ekwueme, Chief Christopher Ndubuisi and HRH Oranu Chris Chidum.

Aburime said: “The new Council, assembled with a focus on excellence, integrity and strategic leadership, will provide guidance and oversight for the continued growth and development of the state-owned university.”
