Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he has been with since its formation in 1999.
In a resignation letter addressed to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, the senator expressed his frustration over internal conflicts within the party.
Join our WhatsApp Channel“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko wrote in the letter dated January 30.
Internal Conflicts Prompt Resignation
Nwoko pointed to recent events as further proof of the party’s struggles. “Just this week, precisely on the 29th of January, the top party functionaries degenerated to the lowest levels by physically fighting themselves, arising from the stated factions, which have become irreconcilable,” he stated.
The senator noted that the worsening divisions have affected his ability to serve his constituents effectively.

Ned Nwoko Thanks PDP for Past Support
Despite his resignation, Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him in the 2022/2023 senatorial elections.
“I appreciate the opportunity the PDP has given me to engage with my constituents directly. However, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realising the promises I made during my campaign,” he said.
He explained that stepping away from the party was a necessary move to fulfil his obligations to his people.
“After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfil my obligations to my people,” Nwoko added.
Commitment to Constituents Remains Strong
Nwoko reassured his constituents that his dedication to their welfare remains firm, even though he has left the party.
“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship,” he said.
The senator, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, emphasised that his decision was in the best interest of those he represents.
“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he added.
Ned Nwoko Wishes PDP Success
As he departs from the PDP, Nwoko extended his best wishes to the party and its members.
“I thank the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years. I wish the party continued success in its future endeavours,” he concluded.
