The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, removed Senator Ali Ndume as Chief Whip and replaced him with Senator Tahir Monguno.
This followed a letter from the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and the party secretary, Bashir Ajibola, which the senate president read during the plenary.

The APC national leaders accused Ndume of making “unguarded utterances” that are “against the Federal Government”, adding that he is “someone who is bent on dividing the country.” According to the letter read by the Senate President, they also alleged that Ndume by his utterances and actions is not putting the country in a better position in the international community.
They recommended that Ndume’s position be taken over by Moguno, who represents Borno North senatorial district in the National Assembly.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, after reading the letter, put the request to a voice vote in which the majority of APC senators endorsed it during the plenary.
Also, the APC national leaders asked Ndume to resign membership and join any other political party of his choice.

Senator Ndume, who represents Borno South senatorial district, recently granted an interviews at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja where he complained about President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Ndume said Tinubu is no more accessible and is no more in touch with what is happening in the country in terms of insecurity and economic hardship, especially food scarcity.
“The government is not doing anything about the food scarcity and it needs to do something urgently. We don’t have food reserve. There is unavailability of food. Food crisis is the worst crisis that any nation can encounter. If we add that to security crisis, it will be severe,” had said.
His comment triggered reactions from the pro-Tinubu lawmakers, who berated him.
