Egypt and Liverpool star forward, Mohamed Salah, is on the verge of losing a good number of his fans following his Twitter posts that showed pictures of his family in front of a Christmas tree.

The former African Footballer of the Year has become known on Twitter space for joining millions of Christians all over the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ every December 25.

This solidarity does not sit well with some of his Muslim fans who have been reacting to the pictures on social media.

Most of those who responded to his hearty Christmas greetings threatened to unfollow him for daring to fecilitate with those rejoicing on Sunday.

‘‘Mo Salah, I loved you as a madrid fan. I viewed you as an excellent player and you always inspired me. However, after this tweet, I can no longer view you as my role model,” one of his ardent Twitter followers wrote.

Another Salah’s’ supposed supporter said: ‘‘You disappointed me. If you don‘t delete this tweet, I will have to unfollow you.”

‘’I’ve been a Liverpool fan since I was born but I will stop supporting the club because you are celebrating Christmas with the Christians. You’ve just lost me as a fan Mo Salah. Goodbye,” comes another reaction.

Salah has always supported Christian causes and once donated cash when a church in his native Egypt was engulfed by fire.

Salah has played 22 games in all competitions for the Reds this season and has scored 15 goals in total in both the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup.

The former FC Basel, Chelsea and AS Roma forward scored twice in Egypt’s 3-0 win over Niger in an international friendly on September 23.

Salah is expected to be in action for Liverpool on Boxing day as Liverpool make the trip to Villa Park to face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

The game kicks off 6.30pm Nigerian time on Monday.
