Biden’s New $8 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine
The aid package includes a wide range of military support, most notably the introduction of the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), a precision-guided bomb capable of striking targets from 81 miles away.
This medium-range missile will significantly enhance Ukraine’s ability to launch effective strikes from a safer distance. Biden, however, made it clear that U.S. missiles will not be used for deeper strikes into Russia.
Biden emphasised the importance of this military aid in strengthening Ukraine’s position on the battlefield. “This will provide Ukraine with additional air defence, unmanned aerial systems, and air-to-ground munitions,” Biden explained, noting that the aid package also bolsters Ukraine’s defence industrial base.
Zelenskky Thanks Biden for Crucial Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his deep gratitude to Biden and the U.S. Congress for the new military aid.
“I am grateful to the United States for providing the items that are most critical to protecting our people,” Zelenskky said. The package includes a refurbished Patriot air defense battery, drones, long-range missiles, and expanded air defense systems.
Zelenskky also reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to transparency in using the resources: “We will utilise these resources in the most efficient and transparent manner.”

Biden’s Continued Support for Ukraine
Biden’s commitment to Ukraine extends beyond the current package. He revealed plans to allocate the remaining U.S. security funding by the end of his term in January.
Biden also announced an expansion of training for Ukrainian pilots, particularly in the use of F-16 fighter jets. By next year, 18 additional Ukrainian pilots are expected to receive training.
He highlighted the broader impact of the aid, saying, “This will strengthen Ukraine’s defence industrial base and support their long-term maintenance and sustainment efforts.”
Funding Breakdown of Biden’s Ukraine Aid
The aid package’s $8 billion is allocated in two parts: $5.5 billion before the end of the fiscal year and an additional $2.4 billion from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
This initiative allows the U.S. government to purchase weapons directly from manufacturers, rather than withdrawing them from U.S. stockpiles.
This strategy ensures that Ukraine receives new and advanced equipment while maintaining U.S. military readiness.
Biden’s latest aid package reaffirms the U.S.’s commitment to Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian aggression. As Zelenskky continues his push for NATO membership, the military support from Biden strengthens Ukraine’s defence and improves its strategic position.
