Rugged Nigerian 4 Shatter Guinness World Record For Longest Theatrethon

Four Nigerian performers brought to the fore the tenacity of the Nigerian spirit as they shattered Guinness world record for the longest theatrethon on Saturday.

The four courageous attempters Graciano Enwerem (Sir Grrraciano), Tamara Dogubo, TheGift Chikere, and Doubra Agwana flagged off a non-stop initially on Friday, October 18, 2024 hitting over 120 hours but with eyes set on hitting the 170 hours mark. The quartet eventually achieved their dream on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Dubbed “The Eclipse Event” or “Theatrethon,” this monumental undertaking seeks to harness the power of theatre to spark social change and advocacy. The team’s artvocacy-centered plays like TheGift Chikere’s SILENCE: Death In Rehearsal, Tamara Dogubo’s Colour Me Mad, Graciano Enwerem’s Reap-off Rip-off, and AS In tackle pressing issues: Sickle Cell awareness, the impact of Political Rivalry, Gender-based Violence in marriages, and mental health awareness.

Despite facing significant challenges, including last-minute withdrawals of promised support and financial strain, the team remained resolute. “Whatever I set my mind to do, I don’t go back against it,” Sir Graciano emphasised. “We’re not just breaking a record; we’re igniting a movement. We are just broken people, trying to break a record to be heard.”

Theatrethon has garnered significant attention through social media campaigns, behind-the-scenes content, and street publicities. The team invites global supporters to join their mission, advocating for critical social causes and promoting awareness.

Nigerians in recent times have become recurring decimal in shattering Guinness World records even as many are seeking more areas to explore.

The known longest play is 30 hr 33 min, and was achieved by Deepika Chourasia (India) in New Delhi, India, from 15th to 16th August, 2020. Deepika’s aim was to showcase India’s history and rich culture.
