United out put a statement on Thursday confirming that the 37-year-old will not be part of Erik ten Hag’s squad for Saturday evening’s game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after he stormed down the tunnel during their 2-0 win against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

Ronaldo was summoned to Carrington on Thursday afternoon for showdown talks with Ten Hag. The Portugal international’s future is now in doubt, with rumours suggesting he could be transferred in January once the upcoming World Cup has concluded.

The Portuguese accepted his humbling punishment to train with the club’s U-21 players, albeit the situation is expected not to undermine his World Cup place.

Two of Ronaldo’s international teammates – the duo of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota – have been ruled out of the tournament through long term injuries.

Ronaldo described his walking out of the pitch after his coach refused to introduce him in the win over Tottenham Hotspur as being in “the heat of the moment” but he will be denied certain benefits like medicare for one week according to the release by the United heirachy.
