Simon received a lot of sticks during Rohr’s reign as Nigeria’s manager as a result of his inconsistent performances.
Instructively Rohr played the Nantes forward most times as right wing back rather than a conventional left winger which is the case at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
However, the Nantes winger has been impressive so far at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with his mazy runs and dribbling skills.
Simon was named Man Of The Match in Nigeria’s 3-1 win over Sudan on Saturday, with the winger scoring a fantastic goal with one assist for Samuel Chukwueze’early goal.
Rohr spoke with Canal Plus TV on the issue: “When I was coach, a lot of people wanted me to drop him, but he is very important to my team.
“He puts the team first and plays for all with ease. I love his attitude on the pitch and he’s a perfect gentleman off the pitch. I never doubted him.”
The 26-year-old has recorded two goals with six assists in 18 apperances for Nantes in the French Ligue1 this season.
