A record 8.6 million tickets has been sold ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics with projections that the record may hit 10 million mark.
Fair to say that the Paris Olympics already has one gold medal in the bag as the 8.6 million tickets sold is a record for any Games.
Join our WhatsApp Channel“It’s a record held by the 1996 Atlanta Games of 8.3 million tickets where incidentally Nigeria’s Chioma Ajunwa clinched the nation’s first ever Olympic gold medal. That record sales has now been thrashed with the Olympics still 14 days away.
“We are at 8.6 million tickets for the Olympics, and over one million for the Paralympics,” the 2024 Games organiser Tony Estanguet told AFP on Thursday.
Prime Business Africa reports that the Paris organisers forecast that total sales will rise to 10 million for the July 26-August 11 sporting extravaganza, and 3.4 million for the Paralympics staged between August 28 and September 8.
“The good news is that in this final stretch we are making available a number of tickets for lots of sports,” Estanguet said.

“There are lots of really good options at different prices both for the Olympics, Paralympics, and opening and closing ceremonies.”
He added: “We are proud to have already beaten the record, but we can still do even better.”
There will be 329 events across 39 sports at the Paris Olympics. Three sports that debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics namely sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing will be in action in Paris while one new sport ‘breaking’ the street style of dance will make its debut.
