An elated team coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, who doubles as one of the assistant coaches of the Super Eagles highlighted the significant positive response this victory has elicited from various sectors.

The club took to the social media to philosophically capture the joy of the moment saying “15 years of waiting, one moment of glory. Tonight the stars don’t just shine, they reign.”

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, acknowledged the milestone, describing it as an unprecedented achievement for the state.

In a statement from his media advisor, he said, “I am delighted that the unwavering perseverance and consistency of the Remo Stars Football team have been recognised on a national level, to the admiration of all Nigerians.”

Remo Stars secured their maiden Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) crown on Sunday, edging Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium to write a new chapter in their history.

A late goal from Olamilekan Muhammed Adebayo in the 84th minute, proved decisive, sparking celebrations, as the Sky Blue Stars finally got their hands on the prestigious trophy.

The crucial victory moved Remo Stars to 68 points after 35 matches, having recorded 21 wins, five draws, and nine losses.

They hold a commanding 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United, who sit on 58 points from 16 wins, 10 draws, and nine defeats.

Abia Warriors occupy the third place with 56 points, while Ikorodu City are fourth on 53 points as the league campaign approaches its final stages.

Days of Humble Beginning:

Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname under the name FC Dender, Remo Stars have steadily climbed the ranks of Nigerian football over the past two decades.

Their ascent saw them earn promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) in 2010. However, progress was not always linear.

The club faced relegation from the top flight in 2018 but showed resilience by bouncing back in 2021, securing a place in the NPFL after finishing second in the NNL playoff Group A.

This title triumph marks a historic achievement not just for the club but also for the Southwest region.

Remo Stars are the first club from the region to win the Nigerian top-flight title since Julius Berger lifted the trophy in 1991.The victory means Remo Stars will fly the Nation’s flag in the CAF Champions League next season.

But like the Olympics the league must be concluded despite Remo Stars photo finish with three matches to go.

In Game week 36 fixtures billed for May 7, Remo Stars visit El-kanemi warriors in one of their inconsequential matches; second placed Rivers United host now dethroned Champions Rangers international who currently occupy 8th position on the log.

Bendel Insurance face Akwa United, while Heartland host Plateau United in Owerri. Other clashes will see Katsina United trade tackles against Kano Pillars, Niger Tornadoes welcome Abia Warriors and Lobi stars slug it out with Nasarawa United.

At the Aba Township Stadium, it will be Enyimba against Kwara United, Ikorodu City host Bayelsa United while Shooting Stars face Sunshine Stars in South West derby.
