World leaders have attributed the death of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny to President Vladimir Putin and insist that the killing will not be in vain.
U.S. President Joe Biden speaking at the White House, saluted Navalny for his courage to stand up for justice even at the expense of his life.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelNavalny died in prison after he returned to the country following his treatment abroad for poisoning.
“He could have lived safely in exile following an assassination attempt in 2020, Biden noted.
“Instead, he returned to Russia knowing he’d likely be imprisoned, or even killed if he continued his work.
“The failure to support Ukraine at this critical moment will never be forgotten,” Biden said.
Biden would have none of the cover-up put forward by the Russian officials and was unequivocal in his belief that the demise of the outspoken freedom fighter was brutally masterminded by Putin.
“Make no mistake: Putin is responsible for Navalny’s death,” Biden insisted.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described Navalny’s death as a “tragedy” and calls out the Russian president who intends to have another run as the country’s leader in next month’s election.
“It is a tragedy. It really shows the extent to which Putin will crack down on anyone who is fighting for freedom for the Russian people.
“And it’s something that has the entire world being reminded of exactly what a monster Putin is.”
At a joint news conference in Berlin on Friday evening alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was clearly not holding back as he unapologetically pointed the finger of accusation on Putin.
“Obviously he was killed by Putin. Like thousands of others who have been tortured, tortured because of this one creature. Putin doesn’t care who dies,” Zelenskyy insisted.
