Tiktok has become a go-to platform for discovering new music, reviving old songs, and providing a platform for emerging artists to grow their fan base. As 2022 wraps up, here are some of the most popular African Songs on Tiktok for 2022.


1. Ku Lo Sa by Oxlade

Nigerian singer-songwriter Oxlade, had a very successful run in his career this year, taking the African Music Industry by surprise. His Song “Ku Lo Sa” a regular A Colors Show” performance, held TikTok in a chokehold as he had everybody trying to mimic his dance steps in that performance. The song was released in June but got more attention in August, with content creators mimicking Oxlade on TikTok, this song also got a significant feature from American Singer-songwriter Camila Cabello. The popularity of the song even brought out the Oxlade effect filter. The dance trends, filter effect, and other creative content all combined have over 582.4k video content. This is not the only song sound released by the Nigerian music star. A more extended version of the song, which is a minute long, has been used in over 292.8k video content.


2. Girlfriend by Ruger

Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, had grown men and women shaking their waists to his hit song girlfriend throughout the year. This song grew popular on TikTok with the song challenge trend that the composer, Ruger, started. The official sound from the song is a minute long and has been featured in over 934.9k videos. Another shorter version uploaded by Ruger has been used in over 58.4k videos.
The sound gathered a lot hashtag as is a norm on TikTok, some of the popular ones are #whatifido, which has 7.8 million views, #girlfriendruger, with 16.4 million views, #girlfriendrugerchallenge has 6.7 million views; and #rugergirlfriendchallenge, with 19 million views.

3. Sugarcane – Remix by Camidoh, Mayorkun & Darkoo

“Baby make I fire you with my machine gun, 16 rounds I be king Kong” was a line sung by many people this year. “Sugarcane” was released in April, this song gained immense love across Africa because of its blend of British, Nigerian, and Ghanaian vibes. This is of no coincidence as the three artists featured in the song are from these locations respectively.
The song started strong on TikTok soon after its release with a dance challenge that engaged millions of content creators. The #sugarcaneremix has over 107.6 million views, and the official sound has been used in over 1.7 million video content.


4. Rush by Ayra Starr

Rush by Ayra Starr is a pretty relatable song, and people across the continent loved this big tune from the self-acclaimed Celestin being. Several teasers from Ayra Starr heralded this before it finally debuted in September. It has since been a revelation, further cementing the musician’s position in the Nigerian music industry.
The official sound became one of the popular African Songs On Tiktok 2022, and has been used for over 1.2 million videos, and the more extended version, which is almost a minute long, has been used in over 688.2 thousand videos.


5. Peace Be Unto You (PBUY) by Asake

Popular African Songs On Tiktok 2022

This song became very popular on TikTok mainly for its lyrics and the gyrating feel that comes with the beat. Many content creators jumped on the song to make expressive content by gesticulating in response to the lyrics.

The song was released in June and has been used in over 813.4k video content on the social app, and the more extended version, which is a minute long, has over 117.9k video content. The #asakepeacebeuntoyou challenge has 987.7k views, making it one of the most Popular African Songs On Tiktok 2022.
