In a sad announcement, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, confirmed the untimely demise of Junior Pope, lamenting that their joy was short-lived.
Emeka Rollas took to his Facebook page on Thursday to provide an update on the tragic incident, revealing that despite initially giving hope when Junior Pope’s fingers tingled, their attempts to revive him proved futile, and he passed away.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelRollas shared, “Two notable hospitals tried their best to revive him but to no avail. God knows the best. We finally lost him.” The AGN president also confirmed the identification of Mr. Friday’s lifeless body, but three other corpses are still missing.
In response to this, Emeka Rollas took decisive action by suspending all film productions involving riverine areas and boat rides. Also, he barred all actors from participating in any movie produced by Actress Adanma Luke, the producer of the movie “The Other Side Of Life,” which Junior Pope was featuring in before his tragic death. Concerned about the safety of the film industry, the AGN announced a nationwide halt in shooting on all locations for Thursday, April 11, 2024. This measure aims to assess and improve safety protocols to prevent further tragedies from occurring.
Supporting Rollas’ statement, Emma Onyemeziem, the Delta State chairman of AGN, confirmed that Junior Pope’s body has been deposited in a morgue. The recovery of his lifeless body followed a distressing incident wherein Junior Pope, along with others, fell into the Anam River in Anambra State when the boat they were riding capsized. Peter Chinedu, one of the divers involved in the retrieval, revealed that they were en route to a movie location when the unfortunate accident occurred.
Expressing his shock and recounting his own experience, a sympathizer named David shared that he was returning from a shooting location when their boat capsized on the Anam River. This testimony underscores the inherent risks involved in the pursuit of entertainment in Nigeria.
Prior to the tragic incident, Junior Pope had posted a video on social media, capturing moments aboard the ill-fated boat. In a heartfelt caption accompanying the footage, he wrote, “See me lamenting… The risk we take to entertain you; crossing River 9ja yesterday with no life jacket… Na wahooooo Who does that??” His words highlight the lack of adherence to safety protocols and serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for greater safety measures within the industry.
