The individuals are workers heading to their retirement age set for 2022, 2023 and 2024. According to Busineaa Standard, they were promised exit packages, including 50% payment of their salary until their retirement age.

Other benefits offered to the employees is write off on their existing loan obtained from the company. The retirement age is 60 years old.

It was gathered that some of the affected, which includes general managers and group general managers, prefer to retire rather than being forced out, as a portal has been created for the 500 workers to accept the exit package or reject it, and expect a sack letter at any time.

Regardless Kyari, who also doubles as the chief executive of the company, told the employees to accept the exit package. He told workers during a staff meeting that, “you may accept the package or reject it, but you are advised to take it.”

The attempt to lay off 500 employees reflects the NNPC Limited board have began to implement the private company’s new direction. Recall that last week, President Muhammadu Buhari had launched the new NNPC Limited brand, stating that the oil company will now be commercially oriented.
