Table Toppers, Remo Stars, continued their impressive run in the Nigeria premier league, with a 2-1 win away to Akwa United on Sunday.

The Ikenn-based side took the war to their opponents’ territory right from the first blast of the whistle.

Though the homers had shot into the lead as early as the 6th minute of the match, thanks Uche Sabastine, it merely provided Akwa United’s expectant fans temporary moment of relief.

The Kenedy Boboye led side managed to hold on to the lead through the first half of the encounter but the second half turned out to be too hot for comfort.

A seventy fourth minute equaliser by Arinze Anakwe, mounted extra pressure on Akwa United, who  were hoping at this point that the encounter could end in a draw so that they can at least pick a point for their efforts.

That was however not to be, as Olamilekan Adebayo grabbed the icing on the cake for Remo stars in the 85th minute of the match, subsequent efforts made by Akwa to remedy the situation, failed to yield result.

Recall that the relegation threatened side lost by the same margin against Remo just before the league went on break in December last year.

Akwa have garnered only 19 points in 20 matches. In other matches played on Sunday, Rivers United lost 2-1 away to Plateau United in Jos, but maintained their second position on the log, while Heartland of Owerri managed a lone goal win over Lobi Stars, moving one step up 11th position on the log with 25 points in 20 matches played so far.

For midweek matches Remo will host Abia warriors on Wednesday while Akwa United will be home to Lobi Stars in Game week 21.
