The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has debunked what it described as “false and misleading allegations” made in a viral video which claims that NNPC fuel does not last.

In a statement released on Saturday, by the NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the company described the assertion made in the video as “baseless” and “unfounded,” adding that it originated from an “unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight.”

Prime Business Africa reports that in the video  circulated on social media, a man was heard making claims that his experiment with samples of petrol from Dangote Refinery and NNPCL proved that the latter does not last when put in a gasoline generator.

However, NNPCL insisted that its fuel is carefully made with the best composition.

The national oil company further informed that the petrol sold in most retail outlets in Lagos where the video was made, is sourced from the Dangote Refinery.

It pointed out that Dangote Refinery, being a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security, adheres to strict industry standards, guaranteeing the quality of petroleum products supplied to consumers.

“This misleading video represents yet another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and tarnish NNPC Ltd’s reputation. We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians,” Soneye stated.

While urging the public to disregard the claims made in the video, Soneye said NNPCL will henceforth, take legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about the brand and its operations.
