In an interview with Prime Business Africa campus correspondent, Ebubedike said the aims of the association include bringing Nkanu students together and seeing to the welfare of the members. He also emphasized the importance of the cultural day with regard to achieving the aforementioned objectives of the association (NUNS).

“Today’s cultural day (TURU UGO NATA) is aimed at meeting the objectives. Through the event, People will get to know that such organization exists in UNN. Nkanu students within this school, and other schools will therefore come to identify with their brothers/sisters.”
He further explained that the presence of the special adviser to the governor of Enugu State on students affairs, Hon. Chidi Ilogebe at the occasion would strengthen the spirit in Nkanu’s students. So, students from Nkanu will get to know that someone is always there for them.

PRO of the organization, speaking also on the reason NUNS was created, asserts that: “The organisation gives room for one to identify with people of the same background. It is true that someone may have friends in his/her department, faculty or anywhere, but one being together with people of his culture, creates in such person the innate sense of belonging and trust. Cultural day also creates room for fun.”

During an award presentation to the national president of NUNS, the current president of the association, UNN chapter, Ngene Jonathan commended his leadership (Ebubedike) qualities.

Ngene noted that when Ebubedike was student of UNN, he was a president of the association, UNN chapter, and helped NUNS in so many ways, hence, the decision of the organisation “to give him an award in honor of all he has been doing for the organisation.”

Chairman of the occasion and Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor of Enugu State, Hon. Chinedu Mba also received an award from the organisation through his representative. The presence of the special adviser to the governor on students affairs, Hon. Chidi IIogebe was also recognized at the event.

NUNS is an organisation for all Students from the six Local Government Councils that made up Enugu East Senatorial District in Enugu State (Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu North, Enugu South, Isi Uzo, Nkanu East and Nkanu West LGAs).

The NUNS’ cultural day celebration had the theme “Bring victory home ( TURU UGO NATA)”. Highlights of the event were singing of Nigeria national anthem in Igbo language, explanation of some Igbo proverbs, drama (acted with mixture of central Igbo and Nkanu’s dialect) and coronation of a new Princess of Nkanu (Ada Nkanu) for UNN chapter of the union.
