Nigerian Equity Market Records First Gain This Week

Nigerian Stock Market Value Up By 0.36%, Investors Made N116.48bn

Nigerian stock exchange closed high on Wednesday, with the equity capitalisation appreciating by 0.36 per cent to N32.30 trillion, from N32.18 trillion.

The All-Share Index ended trading on a positive note as well, rising to 59,323.95, as renewed interests in the stock market raised the bourse by 213.93 basis points from 59,110.02 ASI. 

Although the investments into the bourse fell to N6.10 billion despite investors trading higher shares of 643.03 million in 7,806 deals.

The day before, equity traders had transacted 588.85 million shares, worth N8.96 billion, in 8,272 deals on Tuesday.

Top five gainers

  • Afromedia’s share appreciated by 10 per cent to rise from N0.20 kobo to N0.22 kobo per share.   
  • ETranzact grew by N0.53 kobo, up from N5.35 kobo to N5.88 kobo per share.   
  • FTN Cocoa ended trading with N1.78 kobo from N1.62 kobo per share, rising by N0.16 kobo.    
  • Neimeth gained N0.16 kobo to end trading at N1.78 kobo, having opened with N1.62 kobo per share.   
  • Unity Bank’s stock was up by N0.12 kobo, closing at N1.35 kobo from N1.23 kobo per share. 

Top five losers

  • Jaiz Bank depreciated by N0.17 kobo, dwindling from N1.70 kobo to N1.53 kobo per share.    
  • Meyer also fell by N0.24 kobo to end trading at N2.19 kobo, after opening at N2.43 kobo per share.  
  • Ikeja Hotel followed the same path, losing N0.35 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N3.20 kobo from N3.55 kobo per share.    
  • Tantalizer reported a decline of 9.09 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.22 kobo to end trading at N0.20 kobo per share.    
  • Cadbury share depreciated to N17.10 kobo from N18.80 kobo, after losing N1.70 kobo during trading hours.

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange

  • Universal Insurance reported 141.33 million shares, valued at N35.08 million, were traded on its floor.    
  • GTCO recorded 44.86 million shares valued at N1.14 billion.    
  • Japaul Gold saw investors trade 37.68 million shares valued at N23.28 million.    
  • UBA recorded 31.66 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N362.03 million.    
  • Access Corporation reported 27.44 million shares, valued at N409.23 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
