Nigerian Stock Market Records N541.84 billion Gain, Up By 1.54%

Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the stock market authority, disclosed that the capitalisation ended trading with N35.51 trillion on Thursday.

According to NGX, the bourse’s capitalisation appreciated from N34.97 trillion. This means the stock market recorded N541.84 billion gain or grew by 1.54%.

The All-Share Index rose by 995.7 basis points from the preceding day’s 64,267.36 ASI to 65,263.06 ASI.

The value of investment recorded on Thursday was N5.08 billion after investors traded 445.27 million shares in 7,095 deals, contrasting with the N4.26 billion exchanged for 330.78 million shares in 6,251 deals on Wednesday.

Top five gainers 

  • Sterling Financial Holdings’ share appreciated by N0.33 kobo to rise from N3.30 kobo to N3.63 kobo per share.    
  • Nigerian Breweries grew by N3.80 kobo, up from N38 to N41.80 kobo per share.    
  • PZ ended trading with N18.15 kobo from N16.50 kobo per share, rising by N1.65 kobo.    
  • Chellaram gained N0.28 kobo to end trading at N3.09, having opened with N2.81 kobo per share.     
  • Dangote Sugar’s stock was up by N3.25 kobo, closing at N35.90 kobo from N32.65 kobo per share.    

Top five losers 

  • Eterna depreciated by N2.55 kobo, dwindling from N25.95 kobo to N23.40 kobo per share.      
  • John Holt also declined by N0.16 kobo to end trading at N1.47 kobo, after opening at N1.63 kobo per share.      
  • Thomas Wyatt followed the same path, losing N0.11 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N1.06 from N1.17 kobo per share.      
  • McNichols reported a decline of 9.33 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.75 kobo to end trading at N0.68 kobo per share.      
  • Courtville’s share depreciated to N0.60 kobo from N0.66 kobo, after losing 9.09 per cent during trading hours. 

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Sterling Financial Holdings reported 69.45 million shares, valued at N238.09 million, were traded on its floor.      
  • FCMB recorded 33.33 million shares valued at N217.81 million.    
  • Access Corporation saw investors trade 32.98 million shares valued at N568.98 million.    
  • Japaul Gold recorded 28.36 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N28.84 million.    
  • Fidelity Bank reported 27.55 million shares, valued at N219.59 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
