Nigerian Stock Market Record Highest Level In 15-years, Equity Cap Up N59.90bn

On Thursday, the Nigerian stock market hit an all-time high in 15 years, with the stock market rising by 0.16 per cent to achieve the feat.

Based on stock market data, the bourse’s capitalisation climbed to N36.42 trillion, up by N59.90 billion compared to Wednesday’s N36.36 trillion valuation.

The All-Share Index settled at 66,548.99 index, the highest level ever on public record, rising by 109.46 basis points from 66,439.53 ASI.

Recall that on Tuesday, the equity market also reported a similar feat when the ASI closed at 66,490.34 index before declining on Wednesday.

About 7,972 deals were sealed on Thursday after investors exchanged 620.98 million shares, worth N7.18 billion.

The day before, equity traders exchanged 637.19 million shares in 10,033 deals, valued at N3.91 billion.

Top five gainers

  • NGX Group share appreciated by N2.40 kobo to rise from N24 to N26.40 kobo per share.
  • Seplat grew by N166.20 kobo, up from N1670.80 kobo to N1837 per share.
  • TransExpress ended trading with N1.05 from N0.96 kobo per share, rising by 9.38 per cent.
  • UPL gained N0.22 kobo to end trading at N2.58 kobo, having opened with N2.36 kobo per share.
  • Associated Bus Company’s share was up by 8.64 per cent, closing at N0.88 kobo from N0.81 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Multiverse depreciated by N0.30 kobo, dwindling from N3 to N2.70 kobo per share.
  • Nascon declined by N5.50 kobo to end trading at N50.55 kobo, after opening at N56.05 per share.
  • Honeywell Flour followed the same path, losing N0.30 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N3.40 kobo from N3.70 kobo per share.
  • May & Baker reported a decline of N0.40 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N5.50 kobo to end trading at N5.10 kobo per share.
  • Jauz Bank’s share depreciated to N1.50 kobo from N1.61 kobo, after losing N0.11 kobo during trading hours.

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange

  • Sterling Financial Holdings reported 160.99 million shares, valued at N531.39 million, were traded on its floor.
  • Transcorp recorded 135.69 million shares valued at N847.53 million.
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 57.62 million shares valued at N403.33 million.
  • FTN Cocoa recorded 47.17 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N97.39 million.
  • Dangote Sugar reported 28.85 million shares, valued at N1.60 billion, exchanged investors’ hands.
