1. CBN Orders BDCS To Meet New Capital Base By December
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced that all applicants for a new Bureaux De Change (BDC) licence category of their choice, as provided in the regulatory and supervisory guidelines for BDC operations in the country, the draft of which it first unveiled in February this year, must meet the stipulated minimum capital requirements and conditions by December 3 this year.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe new guideline was announced in a circular posted on the CBN website on Wednesday. It directed existing BDCs to reapply for a new license according to any of the tiers or the licence category of their choice as provided in the new regulatory and supervisory guidelines.
2. Labour Demands N500,000 Minimum Wage
Organised labour has demanded that the Nigerian government adopt N500,000 as a minimum wage for Nigerian workers. The labour unions made this fresh demand on Wednesday as negotiations with the Federal Government resumed. This is a shift from their earlier demand of N615,000.
The Federal Government had stepped up its offer on Tuesday from N48,000 to N54,000 per month which the labour unions rejected. Read more
Labour maintained that the May 31 deadline it had given to the government to conclude every negotiation still stands and would proceed on strike if their demand is not met.

The House of Representatives has proposed a bill on Thursday for Nigeria to return to its old national anthem.
The bill was sponsored by the leader of the House, Hon Julius Ihonvbere and it was passed for second and third reading.

Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan caused a stir at the Federal High Court on Thursday when he slumped.
Gambaryan who is allegedly sick, fell down shortly after he was called before Justice Emeka Nwite for trial continuation.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party(PDP) Atiku Abubakar has vowed to continue contesting for presidency.

6. Police Arrest Masquerade Over Assault on Female
The Police Command in Enugu State has arrested a masquerade known as Oriokpa over physical assault on a certain female nurse at Ugwuoye Junction in Nsukka metropolis.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe had said that the masquerader later identified as Ugwuoke Ebube, 22, resident of Enugu-Nsukka Road was intercepted by the Police operatives serving in the Nsukka Sector of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, on May 12, around 3:45 pm.

The Minister of Sports Development, Sen John Owan Enoh has showered praises on Super Eagles Winger, Ademola Lookman for his exceptional performance in the Europa League final.
He scored a hat-trick which led Atlanta to a historic victory. This is regarded as the first ever hat-trick in a Europa League final. This led Atlanta to the first European title and signifies a second major trophy for Atalanta since their first ever 61 years ago.

The International Press Center (IPC) has called for the immediate release of the Editor-In-Chief of Global Upfront, Madu Onuorah.
Onuorah was allegedly arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force at about 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at his residence in Lugbe, Abuja.
