Nigerian Govt Unveils 3-year Revival Plan For Ajaokuta Steel Plant

Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Nigeria’s Minister for Steel Development, has unveiled a 3-year revival plan for the long-dormant Ajaokuta Steel Plant in Kogi State.

Visiting the plant at the weekend, the Minister expressed the Federal Government’s commitment to breathe new life into the facility, aiming to kickstart production, create jobs, and attract foreign investments.

Audu outlined the ministry’s roadmap, which not only aims to revive the steel plant but also includes a proposal to designate the area as an Industrial Park and Free Trade Zone to entice both local and international investors.

In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, the administration is determined to see the Ajaokuta Steel Plant operational again after 45 years of dormancy.

During the visit, Prince Audu emphasized the significance of the steel plant’s revival, emphasizing that it could generate approximately 500,000 job opportunities for Nigerian youth.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead but called for the collective support of all stakeholders, expressing optimism that success was attainable with sincerity of purpose.

The Sole Administrator of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, Engr. Sumaila Abdul-Akab, welcomed the Minister and Permanent Secretary, highlighting the immense potential and investment opportunities the plant held.

He emphasized that the completed and operationalized plant would not only boost the nation’s revenue but also spur development in Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole. This revitalization plan promises to reshape Nigeria’s industrial landscape and economic prospects.
