After losing two group matches to Brazil and Spain respectively at the ongoing Olympics, Super Falcons are condemned to beat the Nadeshiko of Japan on Wednesday to stand a chance of progressing.

Aside from that, the Randy Waldrum tutored side will also be praying and hoping that Spain beat Brazil to increase their chances of picking one of the two slots reserved for two best losers.

The last group match against Japan will certainly not be easy. Unless a miracle happens and the Falcons are able to fly past Japan, the success recorded 20 years ago where the Super Falcons made it to the quarterfinals will still remain the highest point the Nigerian side has reached.

While the Falcons stand slight technical chance of advancing, same cannot be said of the second African representatives, Copper Queens of Zambia who surrendered a 5-0 lead to lose to Australia 6-5 in their second match.

Team Captain, Barbara Banda, grabbed her third hat trick in the match but the team’s effort was punctured by poor goal keeping.

The Copper Queens play their last match against Germany in what promises to be another huge challenge for the Zambians.

There are three groups competing places into the knockout stage. Two top teams emerge from each group to make six with the remaining two slots going to the best losers to complete the quarterfinal pairings.
