The Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), in partnership with Fradro Gas & Power, is set to embark on a major infrastructure project.
The company plans to lay a 24-inch, 600 mmscfd gas pipeline from Agbor to Awka, with a tentative stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for 7 May 2025.

Spur lines from the trunkline will service industrial estates in Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, and other areas, potentially generating interest in other enterprises that would get distribution franchises from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The project is seen as a game-changer for the state, and a group has been called upon to assist in identifying stakeholders and offtakers. The pipeline’s trunkline can be extended to other areas depending on the offtakers’ demand, making it a vital infrastructure project for the region’s economic development. “The planned supply of pipeline gas has been a major setback in the quest for the state to have GENCOs who could run mini-grids. With the signing of the State Electricity Law by the government of Prof. Charles C Soludo, CFR, the process of our energy sufficiency has just begun,” said Engr. Ikechukwu G Okafor, FIOGR, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State on Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
Engr Okafor told Prime Business Africa that the group is a cooperation between NGIC/ Fradro Gas & Power, Anambra State Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, Anambra State Ministry of Industry, Anambra State Chapter of Chambers of Commerce, and Anambra State Chapter of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).
