The post by the police comes few hours after video of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara being attacked with tear gas and a water cannonSiminalayi Fubara being attacked with tear gas and a water cannon by some security men, outside the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, trended online.
Earlier on Monday, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly had launched an impeachment proceeding against the governor, just after the inner chamber of the Complex was burnt down on Sunday night.
Fubara had showed up at the Complex immediately after receiving the impeachment notice, for an emergency sitting at the House’s auditorium.
A protest broke out outside the Complex with supporters of the governor resisting the planned impeachment.
The Governor claimed not to have committed any offence to warrant impeachment by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
“Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment,” he said while addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex.
The Governor however promised the people to ensure that they got the dividends of democracy, adding that he would comment on the matter at the right time.
“Let me assure the people of Rivers that I will continue to ensure that you get the dividends of democracy. At the appropriate time I will address the press,” he said.
