CHAIRMAN, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, said Federal Government has lost N5.4trn to tax evasion and spent 6 trillion naira fighting terrorism in Nigeria.
Bawa made this statement while presenting a paper titled, ‘combating of crime, corruption and implication for development and security’, at the 38th Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime, organised by the Centre for International Documentation on Organised and Economic Crime (CIDOEC), Jesus College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
The EFCC boss who was represented by Sambo Mayana, lamented over the amount of resources that could support a country’s development, being lost through criminal acts like corruption, tax evasion, money laundering, and others.
He noted that despite the natural resources and endowments Africa has been blessed with, the economic crime, terrorism, and embezzlement of funds by government officials, has hampered the development of the country.
