Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has assured that the state government would do everything possible to fish out those behind the killing of some persons in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area on Sunday, 20 October 2024.
The governor gave the assurance when he visited the community on Monday to condole with the families and community over the killing.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelPrime Business Africa had reported that gunmen on Sunday, invaded the Nibo community during the annual new yam festival and opened fire, killing not less than 12 persons in what was suspected to be cult-related violence.
Speaking at Eke Market in Nibo during his visit, Governor Soludo vowed to not only ensure that those behind the dastardly act are apprehended but also go against cultism in the state.
While asking the people to go about their lawful duties, the Governor emphasized that no matter where the perpetrators hide, they will be brought to justice.
He assured the people of their safety and general wellbeing.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Soludo expressed regret over avoidable loss of lives due to mindless violence between rival cult groups.

He enjoined all families and community leaders to join hands in the fight to end cultism in the state.
“Every avoidable loss of life in Anambra shatters my heart, especially when young lives are cut short. The mindless violence between rival cults in our communities is heartbreaking.
“Yesterday’s tragic incident in Nibo, where young lives were lost, is unacceptable! We have an anti-cultism law in place and I have ordered immediate action against those involved.
“But laws alone aren’t enough. Parents, community leaders, let’s join forces to protect our youth! We can’t sit back while our children destroy themselves.
“Let’s take action at home and in our communities to end cultism. We will continue to pray for the lost souls and work towards a safer Anambra where people will live right by the law and draw lessons from this avoidable tragedy,” Soludo stated.
Anambra Police Reiterate Commitment To Arresting Culprits
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command have expressed commitment to ongoing investigation and subsequent arrest of the perpetrators of the cult-related killings in Nibo on Sunday.
A statement signed by Anambra State Police Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command also frown at the act of some deceased relatives to bury evidence, suppress information and disrupt the ongoing investigation.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam led Police Operatives on Monday, 21 October to the scene on a spot assessment where he declared that the Command had redoubled its efforts to leave no stone unturned in hunting down the assailants.
