Reacting to the passing of Nkechi Nweje who died at 60, Ngozi Ezeonu who recently had a running battle with some colleagues after condemning and lashing out at bra-less ladies who had turned out for auditioning, regretted the passing of Nkechi, revealing however that she was not aware she was sick.
While describing Nkechi’s death as a big blow, the thespian said the deceased was one of the nicest people she had met in the Nollywood industry.

She wrote, “It is so difficult to believe you are gone ezigbo nwanyi onicha. I never knew you were ill. So I will never see your ever smiling face again. Nkechi, you were one of the nicest people I met in Nollywood. This is indeed a big blow. Go well, my beautiful sister.” via her post on Instagram on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Veteran actress Rita Edochie also honoured Nweje’s memory by sharing an image of candlelight on a dark background via Instagram on Friday, captioning it, “This world is really not our home.”
In what looks like aligning with the popular saying that anyone mourning the dead is indirectly mourning himself, Stanley Ontop had added while announcing Nkechi’s demise “Na so Stanley Ontop go go one day, a lot will say good and bad things about me. Life is just so unfair, all our struggles and hustles are just vanity. OMG 😳
Late Nkechi, best known for her role in popular movie “Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha” was married to Dr Azubuike Nweje and had six children.
As tributes for the fallen Nollywood actress continues to pour in however, members of the Nollywood fraternity have been told to be more caring and look out for one another.
The submission came from netizens and fans of the industry who took exception to Ezeonu’s claims that she was not aware that Nkechi was sick.
They reasoned that that wouldn’t be the case if the Nollywood stars take time to check on each other as members of one big family.
