NFF Clears Doubt Over Eguavoen’s Position, Appoints Madugu For Super Falcons

Controversy over whether Austin Eguavoen should continue as Super Eagles Coach or not, has been rested after NFF renewed his mandate on Thursday.

The Glass House accepted the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to retain Eguavoen as Head Coach, a statement from the NFF Communication Department revealed on September 26.

Eguavoen and his consortium of coaches, which includes Coach of Rangers international, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Remo Stars Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, will therefore continue with the Nations Cup qualifiers next month with a clash agains Libya October 11 at the Nest of Champions Uyo, and the return leg billed for Benina Libya four days later.

Eguavoen who is making his fourth stint with the Super Eagles as coach, led the team to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo and then pulled a draw against Rwanda in Kigali in match day 1 and 2 respectively.

As if bringing the saying that the reward of hard work is more work, Eguavoen and his team will also oversee the Super Eagles Team B (made up of players plying their trade in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in their qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Confédération of African Football (CAF) has just  confirmed that Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania as co-host Nations of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which will run from February 1 to 28 next year.

However, the host stadiums and training venues are yet to be confirmed. The qualifying series will begin on the weekend of 25-27 October 2024 and continue on November 1 to 13.

Meanwhile, Coach Justin Madugu has been appointed as Coach of the Senior Women National Team, The Super Falcons. Madugu replaces American tactician Randy Waldrum who resigned his appointment recently after leading the team to the Last World cup in Australia and New Zealand and also to this year’s Olympics in France.

Coach Madugu Primebusiness.africa gathered,  will hold the position pending the appointment of a substantive Head Coach for the Super Falcons.

The team’s next major event will be the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) billed for Morocco next year.

Super Falcons who have won the title a record 11 times finished fourth at the 2022 edition equally hosted by Morocco after losing to Chipolopolo of Zambia in the third place match.

Recall that South Africa won the edition after beating hosts Morocco 2-1 in the final played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Although Falcons booked early exit from the Olympics in France after losing their three group games against Brazil, Spain and Japan, the team marked the event as a plus,  returning to the Olympics after 16 years absence.
