Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is set to continue on the saddle despite the impression given by the Nigeria Football Federation that his future could be decided by a public poll.
According to reports making the rounds on Monday but not yet made official by the nation’s football ruling body, the Portuguese will be in charge of the team going forward and lead the three-time African champions to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivorie.

An inside source in the Nigeria Football Federation debunked the idea of indigenous coaches taking over the national team with the contract of the former Venezuela coach expiring on Friday (June 30).
The Nigeria Football Federation had to go through a dispute resolution with former coach Gernot Rohr when the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) intervened in the situation.
“We regret sacking Rorh and won’t make another mistake with Peseiro,” the source told a Lagos based media organization.
“How many of our coaches are better than Peseiro” the source was quoted as saying.
It is understood that the embattled coach will be given a fresh mandate to lead the Eagles to the semifinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Eagles qualified for the AFCON with a narrow 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in their last qualifying game in Monrovia last week Sunday.
The team’s last game in the qualification campaign is a, fixture against Sao Tome and Principe in September.
